Hey everyone,

Got and idea you liked to see on the new site or a change made?  Email me at MikeM@WorldTavernPoker.com with the subject line "NEW WEBSITE".

Player Rankings
Posted on 08/26/2010

Hey everyone,

Ok, Player Rankings should be fixed by tomorrow.  This is my fault because we are adding some future changes to the rankings and it was causing a "conflict" with the current rankings.  My apologies.
Thanks again for everyone's patience and compliments on the new site.
Best,
Mike

Website Update - Please Read
Posted on 08/24/2010

Good morning everyone,
90% of the website bugs have been ironed out and only a few more to go.  Thanks again for everyone's patience.  Also thanks so much for all the compliments we have gotten over the new site...We know that to some change is a very difficult thing, but take a deep breath and go with the flow and you will quickly find the new site is very similar to the old one with some nice new upgreades.
Here are just a few things you will find;
FOR PLAYERS
QUICK LINKS - When you are logged in you can get to the most common pages with one click using the QUICK LINKS on the right side of the page
LEADER BOARDS - We wanted to give you quicker access to the different leader boards, so at the bottom of the page you will find the tabs to all the rankings
MY WTP - When you are logged in, the first tab you are taken to is the MY WTP tab which will get you to all of your info very quickly.
MY STATS - A new feature (thanks to the prodding by Captain Jack from NJ) we have added some new stats for you to see.  In the future you will find a number of new ways to measure your poker success.
REGION NEWS - In markets with local reps you will find Regional News.  As well, if you have any updated news for your Region, please email it to Players@WorldTavernPoker.com and we will get it up for you.
CHANGES FOR THE TDs and BAR OWNERS
STEP BY STEP - In the past you needed to click on a variety of links to get players added and your scores updated...now you just click on the ADD PLAYERS & UPDATE SCORES button and the site walks you through everything with a few simple Yes and No questions.
ADDING PLAYERS - And notice that you can now add a player to both games for that night (a very long awaited function)
TRENDING - You can now view your season asttendance in nice graph that details each week.  This is a great tool to see what works best for your crowds.
MUCH MORE COMING YOUR WAY!  Over the next few months you are going to continue to see new functionalities to the website with our ultimate goal of making www.WorldTavernPoker.com more functional and easier to use.
Thanks again for everyone's patience during this transition.

New Bern is poker capital
Posted on 08/20/2010

of Eastern North Carolina. Last Saturday The Diamond Club, a very classy nite club, in New Bern welcomed 70 World Tavern Poker Regional Championship contestants from Goldsboro, Jacksonville, and of course,New Bern.  Play was intense but fun and three New Bern Players advanced to national in Las Vegas November 8th.

5th Basil Oates Holmes, New Bern

6th Glenn Kiely, New Bern

10th James Sharp, New Bern

also qualifying is Joe Riley season points champ.

Other news of the week is the new website which is great but there are still a few bugs.  One of the many new features is the Regional Newsletter function just for our region.  So make sure you check out what is happening on this page.  Right now we have two venues in New Bern but are looking for more. So it is back to school, and back to serious poker as the Fall WTP season is off to a great start so support our two places to play and it will be good for all.

Jacksonville Region Poker is Thriving
Posted on 08/20/2010

First news is that the Region swept the joint regional competition at the Diamond Club in New Bern last Saturday.

Here’s the finish:

1st Allen Whaley, Beulaville

2nd Judy DeCiccio, Hampstead

3rd Pete Witkowski, SurfCity

4th Patrick Schmidt, Jacksonville

5th Basil Oates Holmes, New Bern

6th Glenn Kiely, New Bern

7th Stanley Powers, Maple Hill

8th James Futral, Hubert

9th Michael Dove, Hampstead

10th James Sharp, New Bern

if you count we have 7 national qualifiers plus Don Harring our season points champ....How about that????

This week we are bring WTP back to Swansboro.  The VFW Post 9960 in Cedar Point will soon be a favorite venue I am sure.  Today we are having an issue getting that venue listed under Jacksonville region but if you can't find it to sign for Wednesday up look under Onslow County

But the big news is the new website....it is cool right... but there are some bugs like the one above but programmers are working hard to get everything ironed out.

There is also a new TD guide going out to all bars this week....but we are blessed with some of the best in the country so this will just be a review for Tony, Don, Mike, Joe, and we are looking forward to adding Joan to this distinguished group.

Hope you enjoy this new Regional News and we will try to keep it updated just keep making it happen.

WTP is Back
Posted on 08/20/2010

Yes back at Back to Al's.  This week over 20 players particpated and TD Josh Easto has all the scores updated. So make sure you check it out

Several Goldsboro players attended Regionals at New Bern and at Fayetteville but it does not look like anyone is going. to unseat National Champ Kowmaonte Williams this season as no one cracked the top ten.  Mr. Webber did score 15th of 151 at Wilmington though.

Let us know about news for the Goldsboro Region and we will update it often

Dick

WTP poker is rockin
Posted on 08/20/2010

With Big Apple coming back to WTP there is new excitement in Fayetteville.  We were in town Wednesday and it was  crowded at Big Apple with over 40 players enjoying the great atomospher and competitive poker,  In the first game our TD's gave less ons with James and Jesus taking top two spots.  Don't ltet them do that again.

How about the new website....it is still experiencing some problems but it is 80% and now we have regional news. It is up to you to make some news like at the Regionals last Sunday in Wilmington.  Two of the top ten qualifying for Nationals in Las Vegas on November 8 were:

3rd Bunny Eckerson,

6th Erin Connolly

With this being only week 6 of the Fall 2010 there is a lot of time left to qualify for the next one.  Please  help us get new venues in Fayetteville as World Tavern Poker does reward its players.  Call me.. I can answer your questions

WTP Players Cash In The WSOP!
Posted on 08/16/2010

John Madden and Kristie Linkowski both cash in the WSOP circuit event!

Event 49 began with 7 World Tavern Poker Players. Everyone did a phenomenal job, with most of our players beating out half the pool. John and Kristi beat out 90% of the 2,500 players that played in the tournament, both placing in the money! Great Job guys!

Madden went out 192th having A8 against Pocket 4s.
Kristie just misses the bubble going out in 268th. Kristi's AA got cracked against A8. The flop came 8-J-8.

What an amazing effort by all of our players. In the past year alone we had 30 WTP players play in WSOP events. Eight have cashed, meaning that 20% of our players have made it to the money. Think about it...only 8% of people cash in any WSOP event and of that percentage, 20% of our players have cashed. Who says free tavern poker players can't play poker?

Awesome job everyone! Way to represent World Tavern Poker!

Tavern Champs Schedule
Posted on 08/16/2010

Hey everyone,

There was some confusion as to the schedule for this season.

Tavern Championships will be held the week of June 28th to July 4th.

We understand that July 4th is a holiday so here is the option.

If a bar is not going to open on the 4th of July, they can hold their Tavern Championship during Week 1 of the Fall Season.

Please be sure to check with your bar and TD to find out if they will be playing on the 4th.

best,

Mike & the WTP Team!

Robert Janey Wins 10K
Posted on 08/16/2010

Congratulations to Robert Janney of New Jersey for winning the main event seat at the World Tavern Poker Open 10. Janney put up only $10 for his shot at a $10,000 World Series of Poker Seat. The Showboat was buzzing as the 10k Guarantee kicked off and 192 players put on their best poker faces all fighting to snag the main event seat. In the end Janney was the last man standing. What an amazing event and opportunity. Don’t miss out again on your chance to make it to the WSOP. Will you be at the next Open? Congratulations again Rober Janney.

WTP Open Blog Update
Posted on 08/16/2010

I hope you all enjoyed the first of my postings, but I have to finish out day 1 and move to day 2!

There was an overwhelming 500+ players in the 7:00 First Flight of the 10K Guaranteed. The object was to take first or second in a shootout style to move on the the finals. SIDE NOTE: If you were one of the first 100 players to purchase a badge, you or a player of your choice, (submitted by 7:00 Sunday night) would have to move on to the finals and WIN to play Mike at your home bar heads up. Grant it, there is a 2nd flight on Monday, but if you do not make it, Sorry Charlie! Anyway...Tuesday's final for the 10 K guaranteed is going to be extremely Interesting.

What time does the 10:00 Tag Team Tournament start? In all honesty, there were so many people left in the 7:00 First Flight tournament, they had to push it back to 11:20. Unfortunately for some, their partners were still in the early tournament, but for most, both people were there to play. It is important to not hover over your partner or any other player at the table while you are on the rail waiting to be switched in. This tournament, although is for cash prizes, is supposed to be a Fun Tournament...The reason for the switching was slightly off the wall, yet creative. At a few points, everyone switched...but we found out who came to AC with their mom, who had some Lovemaking in AC, and who brings allot of Baseball caps for 4 days of fun. Guess you should have a different hat for every tournament you play. Sandy and I went in pretty strong, but in the end, we were defeated by my being blinded out. Congratulations to Colleen Sharkey and Joy Hamryszak on Winning the Tag Team Tournament!

I am hearing allot of 'Bad Beat' stories, but the best is, "Hey, I had 2 cards and went all in and lost to someone's 2 cards. I was knocked out! I shook their hand, got up from the table and wished everyone else Good Luck!" That is the attitude EVERYONE should have!

Monday's Winter National tournament got started about 11:00 with 253 players. Congratulations to Thomas Walker of Jacksonville, NC who was the Victor! I did not have the opportunity to speak to Thomas personally, as he got finished with the Winter Nationals and Jumped right into the 2nd Flight of the 10K Guaranteed. Brian Dougherty, of Levittown, PA-Who plays at Shenanigan's Irish Pub (My HOME BAR) took 5th place in the Winter Nationals...Way to go Brian! I was also asked to mention that Allen (Sidney) Whaley finished 7th place in both yesterday and today's National tournaments. He receives 2 sattelite seats and has double the opportunity to get to the WSOP! Congratulations Allen!

This leads into another Congratulations...Happy 42nd Anniversary to Dick and Charlotte Macartney!!! They not only own the Coastal North Carolina Franchise - but they have the past 3 National tournament Winners in their District. They are very proud franchise owners of World Tavern Poker!

I do not have any information on the 2:00 No Limit tournament, so I will blog that information on Tuesday!

7:00 rolled around and they were Starting the 2nd Flight for the 10K Guaranteed. Again, they had 430 players to play this tournament for the 12:00 final on Tuesday. I was stopped by another one of my players from Shenanigan's Irish Pub, Matt Meyers, and asked to quote him. Matt said, "I started at tu tu, aka table 2 seat 2, with my girl from Thoms River at 2-1 holding her own and my guy at 2-7 from Pittsburgh - Go Steelers! - who cracked my Kings! Go PA all the way at table 2!" This is Matt's first world Tavern Poker Open and he could not get over how great the table was. everyone was so friendly and made some Awesome plays.

It is 11:40 at night and I am sitting on the Deck of the Foundation Room. There is a nice cool breeze and the waves of the ocean are a sight to be seen! The Boardwalk is lit up and it is AWESOME! Tonight there is Pokeroke - Mike Fillipelli's take on Karaoke! Last night we had great entertainment by Mama's Blacksheep. The Foundation room is a comfortable area - mostly for those high rollers - but thanks to the staff for making it so cool and comfortable for us to hang out!

There is a 10:00 Pajama Party Tournament going on as we speak...But I was given the winners for the Best Costumes. For the best Couple - Barb and Lynne won as they came in a Donkey and a Shark pajamas including the hats to match. Billdo Cleveland won for the Funniest Pajama's - he is dressed in a one piece flannel Baby blue with Ducks, and the Sexiest Costume winner was Ymi Quinones who is in a Leopard sexy Lingerie piece. I will report the winners on Tuesday.

This is all for today...I am contemplating going in and singing "Spirit in the Sky" for giggles!!!

Blog Part 1 by Shari Whitby

Welcome to World Tavern Poker Open #10. This is the largest Open to date with about 750 people, and the WTP Staff requests that we give the Showboat a little bit of patience. Keith and I arrived around 12:00 only to be greeted by so many friends from all over the Nation! Luckily, with a job like mine, I get to meet many more new friends! (I only wished that I had a staff shirt so that people would not wonder why I am walking around taking notes!) Also, If you are on Facebook - Please look up The Official World Tavern Poker Page and click - LIKE!

My first encounter was with Stephen Snyder - The Drive Around Guy - from Connecticut, who drove a total of 17,000 miles: 3 States and 7 Bars during one Session - Winter - so he could make it into Nationals. For those of you who live in he Northeast, we had one heck of a Winter with many inches of SNOW!!! He qualified via Cumulative Points. Congratulations to Stephen!

I also noticed the different colored badges: Red for normal badges, Purple for the staff and volunteers who are working the open,(mine is purple), and green for the last minute shoppers who still were able to buy a badge. Note to all of you...If your planning on Attending a WTP Open...buy your badges early!

The Early Strikers tournament started around 2:00 with a total of 151 entrants. As I was walking the floor, again, being greeted by so many friends, I noiced an old friend - Captain Jack - actually his name is Mike, who reminded me that he was "In it to Win it!" Of course, Keith Morris from Virginia, who was playing with Mike, was In It to Win It too! Unfortunately, neither made it to the end, but the compeition and the fun was most important. Congratulations to Pete Rose from Charlotte, North Carolina on the Win!

What do you do while waiting for the 3:00 National Ttournament? Well our other very good friend, Dawn Smith, decided to play a penny slot, only to hit for a few hundred so that will cover all of her tournaments here at the Open! Dawn, please share the LUCK with some of us? Kowamonte Williams, from North Carolina succeeded in defeating the crowd with his King/Jack. Special mention to our Bubble Boy - Michael Jeffries. Mike won a consolation prize of his entry into the Pajama Party Tournament - Monday Night. Congratulations to all those who were in the top 8 and received seats ino Sattelite tournaments for the WSOP!

Again, as I was roaming the floor, I was stopped by my new friend, Al Podger from Hamburg, NY. (Out by Buffalo) Al plays at Shandy's Bar and had so many nice things to say about Ben and Pieter, the Professionalism and Organized events from the WTP Staff, and the owner of the bar - Joel. Al's wife, Marie, was playing in the National tournament and he was siting on the sidelines showing his support. The players in Buffalo travel about 3 hours to Play Regionals in Franklin, PA. Al went on to tell me that Joel has been working very hard not only to have a successful game at Shandy's, but is also trying to expand the region. "Joel is amazing", as he runs a great game on Monday nights, is very professional and knows the rules, provides a Great Atmosphere, and the players have allot of fun! That is what this is all about!!!! His game has grown from around 20 players to 50-60 players and he is hoping to host a Regionals in the Buffalo area in the future! Thank you Joel for Hosting WTP!!!! (I make sure I Thank my players weekly for their suuport, but it is Awesome when the Players Thank You back!) Thanks to Al and Marie!

WTP Players Cash in WSOP!
Posted on 06/30/2010
John Madden and Kristie Linkowski both cash in the WSOP circuit event! Tuesday, June 29, 2010 We lost John Schacte late last night. John Madden and Kristi Linkowski still in it! Down to 290 players! Hang in there guys! UPDATES COMING SOON 10:03pm 802 players left, top 270 get paid! and 3 WTP Players still in it! 9:59pm Dinner Break (don't forget the time difference) 9:54pm John Schacte is down to 3,500, John Madden is at 25,775! and Kristi is at 10,000 9:21pm Antonio Burney just went out 9:19pm Jason Andrews goes out 9:18pm Antonio Burney doubles up to 4500 8:36 What started off with over 2,500 players is now down to less than half of the field and 6 of the 7 World Tavern Poker Players are still in! Hang tough everyone and PLAY SMART! (easy for me to say :) 7:55 John Owens, long time WTP player and friend was just spotted at Table 39 (he snuck in around us) and that gives us 7 total purple shirts in the starting field and 6 still in! 7:39pm John Schacte is down to 8k. He is hoping for better cards... 6:21pm John Madden doubles up twice again! First with AQ then AA. 5:17 pm Antonio Burney takes a hit when his pocket Kings got cracked. Down to 1100 in chips. 4:47 pm Molly Poland just went out with trip 8s. She was beat with trip Queens. John Madden just had his Aces cracked. John had A9 and was beat by a Flush John Madden just doubled up with Quad 2s! WOW! Monday, June 28 So far all 6 World Tavern Poker players are still in the tournament. John Madden doubled up twice, first with pocket 3s and a second time with a set against top pair. WTP's Kathy Kennedy will be checking in to give us more updates on the WTP players. Stay tuned. 6 World Tavern Poker Players will take on Las Vegas this weekend and the World Series of Poker! These are just 6 of the 30 players who have won WSOP seats by playing with World Tavern Poker over the last 3 seasons! Congrats and good luck to... Tavern Champs Schedule
Posted on 06/18/2010
Hey everyone, There was some confusion as to the schedule for this season. Tavern Championships will be held the week of June 28th to July 4th. We understand that July 4th is a holiday so here is the option. If a bar is not going to open on the 4th of July, they can hold their Tavern Championship during Week 1 of the Fall Season. Please be sure to check with your bar and TD to find out if they will be playing on the 4th. best, Mike & the WTP Team!

Robert Janney Wins 10K
Posted on 06/16/2010
Congratulations to Robert Janney of New Jersey for winning the main event seat at the World Tavern Poker Open 10.

Posted on 06/08/2010
I hope you all enjoyed the first of my postings, but I have to finish out day 1 and move to day 2! Tournament Winners Fall 2009 National Championship 1. Kowamante Williams 2. Roger Lee 3. Thomas Wolfram 4. Benjamin Warntz 5. Christine Freeman 6. Jack Gomez 7. Sidney Whales 8. Susan Gebren Early Strikers Tournament Peter Rose Tag Team Colleen Sharky Joy Hamryszak Winter National Championship 1. Tom Walker 2. Felicia Dull June 10, 2010 Blog Part 1 by Shari Whitby Welcome to World Tavern Poker Open #10. Hey everyone, We've arrived in Atlantic City at the Showboat and WOW is this going to be AWESOME! The Poker Room is all set up for us complete with its own private bar!
