What is World Tavern Poker?
 


World Tavern Poker is a Nationwide Poker League where you will be competing during the season in Tournament Style Poker Events at your local tavern.  The top 20 players in each tournament receive points and are ranked at the Tavern, Regional and National Levels.

At the end of the season, the top players at each tavern qualify for the Tavern Championship.  Then the top players from each Tavern Championship qualify for the City (area) Championship.


Each season is approximately 15 weeks long.
What is the Format?
 
Each No-Limit Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament is comprised of 10 to Hundreds of players where you will be playing until one man or woman is left standing.
What is the Buy-In?
 
There are NEVER ANY BUY-INS or any gambling taking place at World Tavern Poker events.  We take this very seriously, and any Player or Tavern who is caught gambling will be immediately eliminated from the league.
What kind of prizes should I give?
 
For each tournament we recommend giving your top 3 players prizes.  This can be beer t-shirts, hats, and/or gift certificates!  A $25 gift certificate is worth $25 to your player, but costs you $10 or less.

What can I win?
 
  • National Champion - Each season the World Tavern Poker National Final Table (8) all win seats into World Series of Poker events!  That's 24 WSOP seats every year!

    Tournament Champions - Each Tavern provides the prizes for their evening tournaments and generally include Gift Certificates, poker supplies, and more.
How often do I have to play?
 
You can play in as few or as many events as you would like, at any tavern you would like.  Ranking is based on the average of your Top Scores rather than cumulative points.  This ensures that our top ranked players are those who play well, not those who play most often.
How do the points work?
 
During each tournament, the Top 20 players receive points based on where they finish and how many players are in that tournament.  Please see the Point System Below.
How are the rankings determined?
 
You can be ranked at 3 levels

Tavern Ranking - Takes the average of your top 8scores at the specific Tavern.

Regional Ranking - Takes the average of your top 12 scores at any Tavern in that Area.

National Ranking - Takes the average of your top 16 scores at any Tavern in the Country.
Can I qualify for more than 1 Tavern Championship?
 
Yes.  You can qualify for as many Championships as you would like (provided they aren't on the same night).
Where can I play?
 
World Tavern Poker is quickly expanding across the country, simply click on the Upcoming Events button to find a Tavern in your area.
What if there aren't any Taverns in my area?
 
If you don't see your favorite Tavern on the list, please send us the location details to Players@WorldTavernPoker.com .  We will contact them on your behalf, but we also ask that you contact them to tell them you are interested in playing there.
How old do you have to be to play?
 
The Tavern sets the age requirements, but we recommend over 18 to play.  To qualify for Regional and National Championships you must be 21 as the Nationals are held in a Casino in Atlantic City or Las Vegas.
How do I register for a tournament?
 
First, you must be registered as a player with WTP.  To do this, simply click on Player Registration and fill out the information.  When you are done, you can log in and view all of the events available for registration.  Next to each Tavern's name on the schedule, you will find a Register button.  Simply click on the the register button and you are done.  You will receive a confirmation email. 
Who do I contact if I have a question about scoring?
 
Each Tavern enters their own tournament results, please be sure to contact them directly if you have a scoring issue.
